Depression Symptoms & Teenagers:
Teenagers or adolescents get depressed very easily and fall into a state of depression. It may appear on any child or adolescent but should not persist for longer. Then immediate doctor’s help is needed.
Depression Symptoms in Stressed Children:
Teenaged children who are stressed out continuously like facing exams or who have experienced some sort of loss or who are not attentive in class or studies or who have anxiety syndrome are prone to exhibit Depression Symptoms. Teenaged girls are more at risk and depressed teenaged boys get affected due to depressed parents at home. Due to depression there are now a lot of teen suicidal attempts. Depression affected children behave differently than depression affected adults. The doctors now advice parents to be aware of the signs of depression in their teenaged children.
Probability of Signs of Depression:
The following signs can be found among teenagers.
Being Sad:
Teenagers show their sadness by putting on black clothes, writing poetry of some sad theme or death, etc. They always cry for no evident reason.
Hopeless Feeling a Depression Symptom:
Teenagers affected by Depression Symptoms will feel that they are not fit for anything and they think that they cannot even beautify themselves and cannot maintain their personal hygiene. They will be really pessimistic.
Loss of Attention outcome of Depression Symptom:
Teenagers become very lethargic and don’t take part in any activity such as sports or other extra curricular activities which they would have enjoyed doing earlier.
Seclusion Causes Depression Symptoms:
Affected teens usually like to be in secluded spots away from family and friends and doesn’t like to mingle in any sort of social activity and they would feel very depressed with thoughts that there is nobody to share their feelings with.
Getting Blamed and Feeling Guilty:
They will start blaming themselves for all the negative happenings around them and thus fall a prey to Depression Symptoms.
Increased Irritation and Frustration:
Teens who are depressed get irritated and start showing their anger and frustration on their family members by abusing them unnecessarily are actually suffering from Depression Symptom.
Stop visiting friends:
They may stop visiting or calling on their friends also have a severe Depression symptom.
Falling Sick:
Teens may have health problems like vomiting, dizziness, stomach aches, etc. which are not actually related to health but due to Depression Symptom.
Poor Performance:
Teens may start avoiding schools or colleges and their performances will also indicate a decline the root cause is Depression Symptom.
Anorexia or Obesity:
Teenagers with Depression Symptoms become careless and negligent. They suddenly start losing weight and become thin as they have loss of appetite or become obese due to over eating.
Talk or Thoughts of Running Away:
Depression Symptoms are so dangerous that they drive unmanageable teens to take drastic steps like talking or having thoughts of running away from home which is when parents come to know that their children are depressed.
Suicidal attempts:
Depression symptoms cause an imbalance of personality. Teenagers are not like adults. They try out suicidal attempts and many commit suicide and die which we would have read so many times in the newspaper and heard so many times from others. If you hear a child or teen saying ” I want to kill myself” then don’t take them casually. Try taking them seriously and take them to a specialist.
Become Alcoholic or Drug addict:
Many teenagers who are having depression symptoms easily fall into the evil trap of drug addiction or alcohol to make them selves feel better.
Dos’ & Do Nots’ for parents:
Parents should not feel bad about Depression Symptoms observed in their teenaged son or daughter. They should keep in mind that it is only passing phase and should not scold or abuse their children more. If they do so then they are at risk to lose their children for ever. So be careful and show complete love and affection on them and encourage them to involve some sort of hobbies of their interest. If, they observe sever signs of depression take the child to a psychiatrist who will give them proper needed advice and treatment if required.
